The Bure Valley Railway is one of the few places in this country where you will still find powerful steam locomotives hauling the heavy trains that they were designed for. Opened in 1990, the railway has had a difficult birth and is only here today because many people have come together to fulfil the dream of a thriving and vibrant steam railway in this most beautiful part of England.
Today, the small core of permanent staff are supported by many volunteers from all walks of life who assist with the operation and maintenance ot the railway. The "Friends of the Bure Valley Railway", as our supporters organisation is called, is active in every department of the railway. Members have the opportunity to man stations, to maintain our track and rolling stock, and even train to become drivers and guards*
